Diagnosis Test large, planispiral, involute, and bilaterally symmetrical, from ten to twenty chambers in the final whorl, no true ponticuli or fossettes but may have retral processes, after the early chambers single or double rows of openings along the sutures open into subsutural canals between the septa and the septal flap of the following chamber, the subsutural canals connecting to the umbilical spiral canal system, sutural openings not homologous with the fossettes of Elphidium, vertical umbilical canals may also occur, periphery rounded; wall calcareous, perforate, optically radial or less commonly optically granular, bilamellar, septal flaps partly or completely overlapping the septa, surface smooth or may be pustulose; aperture and foramina interiomarginal, single or multiple, and may also have multiple areal openings.
