Two new Gyrodactylus species were described in 1997. Gyrodactylus spp. 1 was isolated from the skin and gills of 15 different fish species from the Black Sea and Gyrodactylus spp. 2 from the skin of Blennius sphinx. These two Gyrodactylus species are characterized and termed as Gyrodactylus alviga sp. n. and Gyrodactylus sphinx sp. n.
