The present paper deals with material collected mainly in the German Bight area. The samples cover a depth range from the intertidal to about 90 m. 30.000 polychaetes beloging to 95 genera in 39 families were found. Altogether, 145 taxa were determined, 140 of them could be identified to species level. Diagnostic taxonomic features for the different taxa are described and illustrated. Some new details (e.g. shape of elytra and setae) were found for several taxa. Three taxa are new records for the German Bight: Ancistrosyllis sp. Eumida cf.ockelmanni and Glycera celtica. Important taxonomic terms and definitions are presented in a detailed glossary. All available station data are listed.
