Biology Type of larval development: Short planktonic, non-planktotrophic.
Habitat: In canals and crevices inside large sponges (e.g. Pachastrella monilifera on Meteor group seamounts), [details]
Diagnosis Shell limpet-shaped, up to 5 mm in diameter, low to moderately high conical, highly variable in contour and often adjusting to the shape of the substrate, becoming distorted and irregular. Protoconch small, of ca. one whorl with globose nucleus and constricted distal part, sculptured with irregularly shaped tubercles, some of them fused to form a spiral pattern. Teleoconch with a very characteristic sculpture of small pustules aligned along two oblique directions to form a quincunx pattern. Colour white.
Living animal with an unusually large head provided with two short cephalic tentacles and a snout, but no eyes. Mouth very small, terminal on the snout. Foot small, discoidal, flanked on each side with a pair of small epipodial tentacles. The pallial margin forms a rim which has a crimson colour on living animals, the remainder of soft parts colourless.

Distribution Western Atlantic, off South Carolina in ca. 200 m. Central North Atlantic: Great Meteor, Hyères, Irving and Atlantis seamounts, moderately common in 260-380 m. Eastern Atlantic: Canary Is,, Gran Canaria, rare in 195-215 m. Gorringe, Josephine, Ampère and Seine seamounts, rare in 165-335 m. [details]
