As part of European Shark Week (10 - 18 October 2009) Shark Alliance and its members such as us are targetting the government of Spain with a petition, which you can sign here: http://www.europeansharkweek.org

Spain is a major exporter of shark fins to Asia and issues more special fishing permits, allowing its fleet loopholes around the legislation design to protect some of the most endagered shark species, that any other EU country.

Public opinion in Spain is for shark conservation and the petition calls on Zapatero and the government of Spain to adhere to the regulations for the protection of endangered sharks.

It is vital that Spain changes its attitude now, before they take over the presidency of the EU next year and start influencing this issue for the worse.

Please sign the petition and spread the word far and wide so that we can make a big impact with this during Shark Week.
