Vacancy Title
Postdoctoral position in ocean ecosystem modelling
Country of employment
Belgium
Job description
Applications are invited for a 1.5 year postdoctoral position at the Marine Research Centre (MARE) of the Liège University, Belgium starting as soon as possible.
The successful candidate will participate to the running of a EU Integrated Project SESAME (Southern European Seas : Assessing and Modelling Ecosystem Changes), aiming at assessing and predicting changes in the Mediterranean and Black Sea ecosystems as well as changes in the ability of these ecosystems to provide goods and services (the selected goods and services are fisheries, tourism, carbon sequestration, fisheries and biodiversity).
More specifically, the successful candidate will run a 3D high resolution coupled ecological-hydrodynamical model of the Black Sea’s north-western shelf under global change scenarios related to greenhouse gas emissions (IPCC scenario conditions) and land based inputs (sesame scenarios). Model results will have to be analyzed and synthesized using appropriate indicators. In particular, the candidate will have to work closely with the socio-economists involved in the project in order to translate model results in socio-economical understandable quantities. A particular focus will be put on the modifications of carbon sequestration.
The applicant must hold a PhD in ocean modelling. Above-average knowledge of Unix and FORTRAN90, and experience with supercomputers are welcome. The candidate will collaborate with a team of scientist from the fields of oceanography, atmospheric sciences, mathematical and numerical modelling and marine biogeochemistry.
Interested candidates must submit by electronic mail a motivated application including academic CV as soon as possible (the position is open).
