Vacancy Title Networking and Knowledge Transfer in Marine Biotechnology
Country of employment Ireland
Job description The BIOTECMAR project, co-financed by the European Union ERDF Atlantic Area Programme, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in the field of marine biotechnology. Of particular interest are activities that increase the value of ‘waste’ products from seafood processing. See for further details of the project.

Within NUI Galway, the position will involve building a network of laboratories and SMEs across the Atlantic region. Activities will include exchanges of personnel and know-how among SMES and research institutes. The successful candidate will help produce a guide to marine biotechnology labs and identify potential transfers of results or technologies to SMEs.

This is an excellent opportunity for a researcher with experience of the relevant sector to work in a more industry-focussed role. The successful candidate will be based in Galway, but will work closely with other members of the consortium and project partnership. The successful candidate will represent NUI Galway at project meetings, organise and assist in training events.

Skills required:
• A PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant area. For example, aquaculture, food science or waste processing
• Scientific knowledge of seaweeds: e.g., compositional analysis, ecology and/or identification skills.
• Good verbal and written communication skills

Desirable skills:
• Knowledge of Intellectual Property (IP) procedures relevant to research in biotechnology
• Experience of working for, or in partnership with, SMEs
• Ability to communicate in French, Portuguese or Spanish, in addition to English.
• A full driving licence
• Experience of training or knowledge transfer activities
