Abstract
An-up-to-date list of the amphipods from the English Channel is given for the first time counting 255 species. This inventory is based on recent systematics and suprabenthic studies. The number of species is higher in the western part of the Channel (Roscoff, Plymouth, Golfe normano-breton) than in two areas in the eastern part (Bay of Seine) and Wimereux: respectively, Roscoff (202 species), Plymouth and Golfe normano-breton (194), Bay of Seine (130) and Wimereux (136). The impoverishment of the amphipod fauna from the western part to the eastern part of the Channel is due to a hydroclimatic gradient. Two species are added to the list of the Marine Fauna from Roscoff: Corophium sextonae and Lysianassa insperata.
