Teachers resources

Through the course of the MarBEF project we have been developing resources for teachers to support their work in communicating marine biodiversity topics issues to their students. The resources have been divided into three modules (Marine Biology, Marine Ecology and Marine Awareness) and available to download on both the primary and secondary education pages.

Currently we are examining some fundamental questions in education (see below). All of these will be available shortly to download in pdf format, however, only those with images of the front cover are available to download now.

The School curriculum and Marine Biodiversity

A critical review of the European Science curricula was undertaken in order to identify where marine biodiversity teaching could possibly be incorporated into an already packed curriculum. A case study was produced illustrating how simply the basics of marine biodiversity could be incorporated without changing a curriculums framework and/or direction.

Marine Biodiversity Websites

An overview of marine biodiversity websites in Europe was carried out in 2006. This report priovides a summary of the top websites which were active at the time and the target audiences for each website. A number of websites had educational material which may be of interest to you and also compliments the information here

You can download the report here in pdf format

European schools language and science policies

The education system in Europe is complex in that each country has its own organisation and operation, unique examinations and qualifications and associated terminology. Within individual countries, the curriculum can be specific to individual regions, which creates difficulties in characterising the education system even on a national level. MarBEF in collaboration with AQUA-TNET produced a review of the European schools language and science policies. This document also includes an overview of education systems within Europe per country.

Any views or opinions presented in these articles are solely those of the authors and do not necessarily represent those of MarBEF.
