Etymology Not stated. The name of the genus is composed by the Latin noun flabell, designating a 'small hand fan' and referring to the family Flabelligeridae Saint-Joseph, 1894, in which the genus was originally placed, followed by the Latin suffix -ella, feminine of -ellus and used added to a noun to form a diminuitive of that noun. Presumably the name refers to the small size of the species originally included in the genus. [details]
