Identification This is not Alcyonium ficus Pallas, 1766, nor Linnaeus, 1767. as expressly indicated by Johnston, 1842. He mentioned Esper's (1829) plate as belonging to Halichondria ficus but it is more likley that Esper's record concerns the same tunicate species as Pallas'record. [details]

Morphology In his work Fauré-Frémiet described very precisely the internal anatomy & the cellular composition of Ficulina ficus [details]

Reproduction Oviparous species. Description of ovogenesis from pp. 94-97. Spawning of ovocytes (40-50µm in diameter) occurs in October. [details]
