Paedampharete acutiseries, new genus, new species, is broadly defined due to adult character variation that precludes diagnosis based on commonly used generic criteria. The adult variation is present as a continuous sequence of morphological development. Body length varies from 0.47 mm to 3.11 mm, number of pairs of branchiae from 2 to 3, number of paleae per fascicle from 0 to 11, number of thoracic uncinigers from 1 to 12, and the number of uncini in the first thoracic unciniger from 1 to 19. The variation in these characters is negatively correlated with the number (0 to 4) of anterior setigers bearing hooded ("juvenile") flared notosetae. Progenetic paedomorphosis is exhibited and may have evolved in this species through selection for accelerated maturation in a physically disturbed environment.
