From other sources
Remark Papenfuss & Chiang (1969: 310--312) united 10 of the 11 species (all sexual) assigned to
Galaxaura sect. Eugalaxaura by Kjellman (1900: 59--66) under the name G. Oblongata (Ellis &
Solander) Lamouroux, a name that does not appear in Kjellman's monograph. Among the synonyms is G.
Cylindrica
, which has been distinguished from G. Oblongata by vegetative dimensions that at times overlap (see, for example, W.R. Taylor, 1960: 336, 341). After finding anatomical and reproductive differences,Huisman & Borowitzka (1990) recognized both species, although they admitted that in G. Pilifera Kjellman, a species assigned to sect. Eugalaxaura by its author, the cystocarps were intermediate between those of G. Cylindrica and G. Oblongata. Of the 10 species in sect. Eugalaxaura aside from G.cylindrica, only four were placed in the synonymy of either Tricleocarpa cylindrica or T. oblongata by Huisman & Borowitzka, the remainder awaiting further study. [details]
