Diagnosis Test free, large, up to 6 mm across, consisting of one to several loosely joined spherical chambers; wall agglutinated, of a single layer of coarse sand grains, no inner organic layer present; the loosely agglutinated sand grains separated by large pores that serve as apertures. M. Ordovician to Holocene; cosmopolitan; Arctic Ocean: Kara Sea, Greenland Sea, from 670 m to 700 m.; N. Atlantic, from 90 m to 5,500 m, S. Atlantic, at 300 m to 5,600 m; Antarctic, at 3,350 m; N.
