Etymology aquila = eagle. Named in honor of the Apollo Eagle moon landing.[Foster, 1971] [details]
Taxonomy Foster (1971: 17, 106) deployed four genera of the Prionospio group, adding Minuspio for species with cirriform branchiae only, and Aquilaspio for species with 2-4 pairs of pinnate branchiae, contrasted with Prionospio with mixed pinnate and cirriform, and Apoprionospio with 3 pairs cirriform, the 4th pair pinnate.
