Henry, D. P.; Mclaughlin, P. A. (1967). A Revision of the Subgenus Solidobalanus Hoek (Cirripedia Thoracica) Including a Description of a New Species With Complemental Males. Crustaceana. 12(1): 43-58., available online at https://doi.org/10.1163/156854067x00693 note: Henry and Mclaughlin considered the morphological differences between Hesperibalanus and Solidobalanus does not give a valid subgenus level, rather these two genus are synonyms together [details]

Additional information According to the review of Solidobalanus by Henry and McLaughlin (1967), they already pointed out that the morphological differences between Solidobalanus and Hesperibalanus did not indicate Hesperibalanus is a valid subgenus. They have suggested Hesperibalanus is synonym to Solidobalanus. Liu and Ren (2007) focused on barnacles in China and they also considered Hesperibalanus and Solidobalanus are synonyms. At present, we follow Henry and McLaughlin (1967) to consider Hesperibalanus is synonym to Solidobalanus. This issue should be further clarified by future molecular analysis on the phylogenetic positions of these two genera. [details]
