Classification Iphitime genus is placed under the family Dorvilleidae Chamberlin, 1919 by Dauvin et al. (2003) and others. The family Iphitimidae Fauchald, 1970 is no longer used. [details]
Etymology Not stated, however Iphitime is a feminine personal name from ancient Greece. There are two persons of this name: 1) a Nereid who is said to have created the Satyroi with Hermes; 2) Daughter of the Spartan king Ikarios, hence sister of Penelope , the wife of Odysseus . She was married to Eumelos, who lived in a house in Pherai. [details]
