Abstract
Objectives
To develop a network of MarBEF Coast Watch initiators (national nodes)

Description of work
This network will bring together existing networks (e.g. Shore Watch from UK, Coastwatch Europe, MarLin) that together with MarBEF will give central support for science information, (e.g. taxonomic, ecological, activities, threats) and would be the base for exchange of information about the different regions in Europe. National nodes will be created so information in each country would be exchanged in each national language. Links with biodiversity databases, real-time information systems and so on will be added.

Task 1 Examination of existing Coastwatch initiatives and developing links with them
Task 2 Develop Coastwatch website with the MarBEF outreach site
Task 3 Electronic conference on Coastwatch initiatives around Europe
Task 4 Develop a programme of studies
Task 5 Develop a multi-lingual web-based methods manual
