Abstract
Studies have been made to analyse the interaction between turbulent pres sure fluctuations near the under-beam of a gate and the movement of the structure. For this purpose a short length of semi-circular under-beam was fitted in a flume. The water velocities, the height to which the gate was raised, the mass of the vibrating structure and the rigidity of the attachment could all be varied. The amplitudes and periods of the movement of a beam of variable rigidity were analysed and compared with the amplitudes and periods of the forces when using a fixed beam. The relations between the variables mentioned above are given, with resulting conclusions.,
