Abstract
    Tot vóór de Tweede Wereldoorlog was paling in Vlaanderen ‘gewone kost’: ook in de armste buurten stond stoofaal op het menu. Ook vandaag wordt paling nog gereserveerd, maar de consument betaalt er een hoge prijs voor. De reden is niet ver te zoeken: het is bedroevend gesteld met de palingstand in onze waterlopen. Europa roept alle hens aan dek om deze bedreigde soort van een gewisse dood te redden.
