Abstract
The French Polynesian muricids are revised. The list of synonyms includes only names which were once cited from French Polynesia or species for which the type locality is situated in the region studied. A brief description is given for 71 species, with some remarks on the frequency, the geographical range and the confusions occuring in previous studies. Six species are considered to be endemic, while 12 species are new records for French Polynesia. Three species remain unidentified. A lectotype is designated for Morula spinosa (H. & A. Adams, 1853), Sistrum asperum Lamarck, 1816, and Buccinum pulicaris Lesson, 1842.
