Editor's comment Suppressed by ICZN, presumably mainly because the genus is the oldest genus in the pectinariids. It is senior to Malmgren's Lagis koreni. It is not senior to the original name of the current name Pectinaria belgica, the other confused name maintained in the ICZN Opinion. Malmgren placed Cistena pallasii [sic] as a synonym under Pectinaria belgica Pallas. It is an objective synonym to Nereis cylindraria as Leach appears to create an unnecessary replacement name for N. cylindraria [var belgica] when he names Cistena pallassii and includes N. cylindraria as a synonym. That action is not possible under the ICZN Code of today. The proposal of Lucas and Holthuis (1975: 87) would have maintained this objective synonymy, but the ICZN Opinion 1225 renders the name relationships to be irrelevant. Strictly Cistena pallassii is suppressed and no longer a synonym of any valid name, although the link to N. cylindraria belgica (via Pectinaria belgica) is maintained here to aid understanding. Spelling The original spelling is Cistena pallassii with a double s. This is the spelling used in the ICZN Opinion. However, most frequently the spelling used has been the expected 'pallasii'. This single s is for example the spelling used in McIntosh (1922) monograph under Lagis koreni, and in the Hartman catalogue. [details]From other sources
