Biology Type of larval development: direct (non-planktotrophic), inferred from paucispiral protoconch [details]

Diagnosis Shell up to 18 mm high, fusiform, with a moderately high spire and deep suture. Protoconch of 1 1/2 whorl, globose and smooth. Teleoconch with strong, elevated, rounded axial varices set quite far apart fom each other (about 6 on the body whorl) and flat spiral cords which overrun the varices; external surface forming an intritacalx which gives it a chalky appearence, even on fresh specimens, as is characteristic of the genus. Body whorl with maximum concexity just below the deep suture, then rather parallel sided at the periphery and markedly constricted around the siphonal canal. Aperture strongly thickened externally by the last varix, with an indistict inner rim, bearing 5 faint denticles on aged speciemens, glossy inside in contrast with the outer intritacalx. Siphonal canal straight, open. Colour dirty white, with indistinct yellowish lines along the spiral cords. [details]

Distribution Great Meteor and Hyères seamounts, rare in 310-480 m, endemic and sole representative in the Atlantic of this species group. [details]

Type locality Hyères seamount [details]
