Biology Type of larval development: planktotrophic, inferred from multispiral protoconch. [details]
Diagnosis Shell small (2-5 mm). Protoconch of three whorls with a subsutural thread. Teleoconch with 4 convex whorls and a moderately deep suture, with thin axial ribs forming characteristic spiny projections situated at the upper two-thirds of the whorls; interspaces completely smooth. Colour of protoconch dark brown, of teleoconch white with a diffuse brownish band on the last whorl on fresh specimens.
This unmistakable species only resembles Epitonium tryoni (de Boury, 1913) which has similar ribs with spines situated at some distance fro the suture, but differs in having a conspicuous spiral sculpture on the interspaces.

Distribution Eastern Atlantic, from Bay of Biscay to Morocco, the Canary Is. and the Azores. Western Mediterranean. Gorringe seamount, very rare at 485 m. [details]
